Description Cubase iC Pro (discontinued)
You start a mix, capture a performance, or control a mix from across the room — but your DAW’s native remote app lacks the physical faders and deep channel control you need. Cubase iC Pro bridges that gap by turning your Android device into a fully customizable, high-resolution control surface for Cubase. This is not a simple transport remote; it is a direct, bidirectional link to your Cubase mixer, providing access to every channel, send, EQ, and insert from your tablet or phone.
Core Control Architecture
Cubase iC Pro operates over a standard Wi-Fi network, establishing a low-latency connection to Cubase (versions 5 through 10.5, as well as Elements, Artist, and Pro). The interface mirrors your Cubase mixer in real time. Every fader move, mute, solo, and pan adjustment you make on the Android screen updates the DAW instantly — and vice versa. The communication is fully bidirectional, so any automation written in Cubase is reflected on the iC Pro surface.
- Full Mixer Mirroring: See all audio and instrument tracks, group channels, FX returns, and VCA faders exactly as arranged in Cubase.
- Touch-Sensitive Faders: Drag to adjust level with fine resolution; the fader tip follows your finger with minimal latency.
- Channel Strip Access: Tap any channel to reveal its EQ, dynamics, inserts, and sends for detailed editing without switching screens.
Advanced Remote Functionality
Beyond basic mixing, iC Pro provides dedicated tools for session navigation and editing. You can mark locate points, punch in and out, and control the transport with play, stop, record, forward, and rewind buttons. The application also includes a customizable Quick Control panel, allowing you to map any Cubase parameter — such as plugin macros, instrument articulations, or expression maps — to a set of on-screen knobs and buttons.
- Transport & Locate: Full transport bar with cycle, metronome, and locate point management.
- Quick Control Pages: Assign up to 32 parameters across 4 pages of virtual knobs and buttons.
- Mackie Control Emulation: iC Pro can also act as a generic Mackie Control device for broader DAW compatibility in some configurations.
Key Advantages for Mixing Workflow
The primary advantage is the reduction of mouse dependency. With iC Pro, you can adjust multiple faders simultaneously, write automation in real time, and navigate a large mix session without returning to the computer. The interface is scalable — it works on phones for basic transport and fader control, but fully exploits tablet screen real estate for a console-like experience. The app also supports multiple simultaneous connections, so you and a producer or engineer can each control different parts of the mix from separate devices.
- Multi-Touch Faders: Move up to five faders at once for group rides and submix adjustments.
- Automatic Session Sync: No manual mapping required; the app discovers your Cubase session automatically over the network.
- Latency Optimization: Wi-Fi connection parameters are adjustable to balance responsiveness against network load.
