Description Sago Mini Diner

This app turns a tablet into a functional, interactive kitchen where toddlers learn cause-and-effect through direct touch.

Sago Mini Diner is an educational sandbox for children aged 2–5, built around a single, repeatable loop: take an order, prepare ingredients, cook the food, and serve the customer. There is no scoring system, no timers, and no failure states. The interface relies entirely on drag-and-drop and tap mechanics, eliminating menus and text instructions.

Core Interaction Loop: Tools and Modes

  • Order Management: A customer (cat, dog, or bird) arrives at the counter holding a specific food card. The child taps the card to accept the order.
  • Ingredient Prep: The app presents a sequence of preparation stations. For a pizza order, the child taps the dough to flatten it, taps the tomato can to pour sauce, and drags the cheese shaker to cover the surface.
  • Cooking Mechanics: The raw item moves to a stovetop or oven. The child taps the burner knob to turn it on, then drags the pan onto the heat. A visual timer (a clock icon) counts down. The item changes color and texture as it cooks.
  • Plating and Delivery: The finished meal appears on a plate. The child drags the plate to the counter in front of the waiting customer. The customer reacts with a simple animation (wiggle, bounce, or clap).
  • Cleanup Phase: After every 2–3 orders, the kitchen accumulates dirty dishes and spilled ingredients. The child taps the sponge to wipe counters and drags dishes into the sink. This is a required step before the next order can be taken.

Key Advantages for Parents and Toddlers

  • No Fail States: Every action produces a positive outcome. Burnt toast triggers a funny animation (the toast turns black and smokes) but does not end the game. The child can serve it or throw it away.
  • Single-Tap Mechanics: No pinching, swiping, or multi-touch gestures. Every function in the app activates with a single tap or a short drag.
  • Offline Play: All content is stored locally. No internet connection is required after the initial download.
  • Visual Feedback Loop: Every touch produces a direct, immediate reaction. Tapping the blender lid makes it spin. Tapping the faucet produces water. Tapping the egg cracks the shell.
