YI IoT is the official companion application developed by YI Technology, designed exclusively to pair with and control the international firmware variant of YI IoT security cameras. This distinction is critical: the app is fully compatible with global market units, but it will not function properly with Chinese domestic versions of the same hardware. Those devices require a separate, region-specific application entirely. Before you begin, you must register an account — a process that takes under a minute, especially since you can authenticate directly through your existing Facebook login. Once inside, you can customize your profile by changing your display name and selecting an avatar. The Settings menu also gives you control over subscription tier, cloud storage preferences, and which photos or video clips the system retains locally versus in the cloud.

Live View Only Without a Subscription — Cloud Recording Requires a Paid Plan

A central reality of YI IoT is that the app’s full functionality is gated behind a subscription. Without an active plan, you are limited to real-time streaming only. No video clips will be saved to the cloud, meaning you cannot review past events or access recorded footage remotely. The most common setting is motion detection, but the sensitivity slider lets you dial in precisely what constitutes a meaningful event. At the highest sensitivity, even a curtain swaying from an open window will generate an alert. By adjusting the threshold upward, you ensure that only significant movement — like a person walking through the frame — triggers a notification. This granular control prevents notification fatigue while still keeping you informed of genuine activity.
