Core Gameplay Mechanics

PBO is a role-playing game that strips away the fantasy and throws you into a grounded, near-future survival scenario. The core loop is built around resource management and emergent storytelling. You are not a hero with a destiny; you are a survivor with a pocket full of scavenged batteries.

• Dynamic World Persistence: Every action has a consequence. If you break a window to enter a house, that window stays broken. Loot does not respawn. The world remembers your path, and NPCs react to the state of the environment you leave behind.
• Skill-Based Progression: There are no levels or experience points. Instead, you improve by doing. Fix enough generators, and your repair skill increases. Sneak past enough patrols, and your stealth becomes quieter. You shape your character through action, not menus.
• Faction Reputation System: Three major factions control the city sectors: The Wardens (order-focused), The Scavengers (resource-focused), and The Drifters (neutral traders). Your choices—who you help, who you rob—shift your standing. High reputation unlocks unique blueprints and safe passages; low reputation turns entire sectors into hostile territory.
• Permadeath Mode (Optional): For players seeking maximum tension, enabling permadeath means one mistake ends your run. This is not a punishment; it is a feature that forces you to treat every encounter as a life-or-death decision.
